Robert earned his Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering at Utah State University, where he also designed and built satellites and rockets. The U.S. Department of Defense awarded him the prestigious NDSEG Fellowship to pursue a Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. His research included the development of software to simulate complex dynamic fluid systems using the world's first teraflop supercomputer. He wrote articles for prestigious international scientific journals.
